Selena Gomez Granted Restraining Order Against Mentally Ill Stalker

No matter how great the lives of celebrities may seem from afar, there is no question that there are certain aspects of their lives that most people simply want no part of. Stalkers would have to be firmly at the top of that list. Selena Gomez, equally famous as the star of the Wizards of Waverly Place and for being Justin Bieber's girlfriend, is the most recent young celebrity to have to deal with the very real danger of a stalker who has become obsessed with her. A judge in California granted a temporary restraining order against Thomas Brodnicki, declaring that Brodnicki can't come within 100 yards of Gomez at any time. That order will expire at a hearing on November 4, at which time it is expected that the judge will extend the restraining order for another 3 years.

In an affidavit related to the case, Gomez submitted that she is in "extreme fear" of Brodnicki. Health care workers who had been treating the 46-year old Brodnicki contacted state police after the man-made remarks about harming or killing Selena Gomez. He claims to have traveled from Chicago to Los Angeles to find the actress and he reportedly visited the studios where she works at least three times. Brodnicki has a history of stalking and making criminal threats, prompting the LAPD's Threat Management Unit to take over the case.

Brodnicki told a psychiatric worker that he had several conversations with God about killing Selena Gomez. He was picked up about a month ago and submitted for psychiatric evaluation related to an unrelated incident in which Brodnicki was on the street, threatening to scratch out the eyes of passersby.
