The breakup of movie star George Clooney and Italian TV personality Elisabetta Canalis was, of course, well-documented. As was the relationship itself, with the couple continuously being followed and photographed and appearing on red carpets together in apparent bliss. After the breakup, however, Canalis has had some interesting things to say about Clooney. The words are not necessarily hurtful, though they do point to the fact that Clooney is considerably older than Canalis.
In a new book titled "Questo Amore," which means "This Love," Canalis tells journalist Bruno Vespa that she has nothing but respect for Clooney and grew quite a bit during their relationship. She notes that the 50-year-old Clooney was "the person who valued my feminine side the most" and "also one of the best people I have met from a charitable point of view." The 33-year-old Canalis then said "he has been very special for me, and very important, just as a father would be."
When she was asked for clarification, Canalis noted, "between us there was more of a father-daughter relationship. I was unable to clarify this up until now." Really, though the comments may seem a bit shocking, or perhaps even an insult, there is nothing unusual in a couple having such a relationship. Psychologists often note that we marry someone who reminds us of our opposite-sex parent, and men and women clearly continue to carry on care-giving roles with one another into adulthood. In this instance, there just happens to be enough of an age gap that Clooney technically could be around the age of Canalis’ father.
